There are 8 important Kumbh Mela 2013 dates. Kumbh Mela 2013 will commence on 27th January and end on 25th February. This month long festival is considered one of the splendid and grand events of India as a huge mass of people reach Allahabad to participate in this overwhelming fest. This fair commemorates a legendary war between the Gods and the demons, therefore signifies the victory of truth over evil. People from all over the country and around the world flock to Allahabad to take the Holy dip in the pious river Ganges. It is believed that this Holy dip cleanses the mind, body and soul. Moreover, these Holy dips burn the past bad Karmas and accelerate a fresh start of a person’s life. The huge congregation of diverse saints, devotees and pilgrims go to the Kumbh to cleanse their souls and fulfill their wishes. The Kumbh Mela takes place alternatively in four places: Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik. There are three known types of Kumbh - Ardh Kumbh, Purna Kumbh Mela and Maha Kumbh. The Maha Kumbh takes place in every 144 years, therefore considered very special and significant. Every time, Kumbh Mela breaks all the records of largest human gatherings in world. Like in the year 2001, nearly 40 million people were assembled to take the Holy dip in Ganga.

  • 18th of February 2013, Monday - Maha Kumbh 2013 date for Bhishma Ashtami Snan
  • 25th of February 2013, Monday - Maha Kumbh 2013 date for Maghi Purnima Snan

Makar Sankranti, which is on 14th January is considered a vital day in the Kumbh calendar as it comes right before the Kumbh Mela begins. The Mahasnan will take place on 10th February, therefore a large number of people are expected to visit the Mela to take the Holy dip in the river Ganga.

Paush Purnima

Being the last Purnima of the winter season this day holds a great meaning. A sea of people flock the Kumbh on this day, to begin their spiritual experience.

Mauni Amavasya Snan

This day is the major day which holds great significance as it is the day of Maha Snan (main bathing day). It is believed that taking a holy dip on this day cleanses all the past sins of a person.

Basant Panchami Snan

All the Indians are very well aware of the significance this day. In Kumbh as well Basant Panchmi considered a sacred day.

Rath Saptami Snan

This day is the seventh day of the bright fortnight of Hindu month Magh. This Snan is also known as the Shahi Snan or the royal bath. It is an auspicious day which helps the pilgrims to get rid of their past Karmas and make a fresh beginning.

Bhishma Ekadasi Snan

On this day Bhishma Pitamah from the Mahabharata narrates the greatness of Lord Krishna to Yudhistira (eldest Pandava).

The Maha Kumbh is the greatest and gigantic spiritual congregation of the world. People from around the world participate in this religious fair of all times to become a part of this exceptional and extraordinary event. It is always celebrated on the bank of a river so that the devotees can enrich their lives with the Holy bathe. The Kumbh that is currently being celebrated at Allahabad is the Maha Kumbh which comes once in every 144 years.
