The nine days of Navratri are dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. Hindus all over the world worship Maa Shakti and her nine forms in different ways. They light the ‘Akhand Jyot’ (Diya that burns for nine days continuously) during this time.

The dates of Sharad Navratri in 2017 are based on Hindu Calendar and India Standard Time (IST). All the 9 days of Navratri are celebrated with great zeal throughout the globe. Almost everyone gets indulged in the celebration of Navratri.

During the time of Navratri, the Moon is in Virgo Sign (Kanya Rasi), so worshiping Goddess will be especially useful this year. As this is an auspicious time, all kinds of worship and Siddhi can be performed during this period.

People worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga during Navratri. These nine forms represent not just the secrets of nature but also carry a message for the human race. The festival is also dedicated to the worship of Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Durga. In a broader perspective, Navratri is basically a worship of the Mother Goddess.

September 25, 2017: Panchami - Maa Skandamata Puja
September 26, 2017: Shasthi - Shasthi - Maa Katyayani Puja
September 27, 2017: Saptami - Maa Kalaratri Puja
September 28, 2017: Ashtami - Maa MahaGauri Puja
September 29, 2017: Navami - Maa Siddhidatri Puja
September 30, 2017: Dashami - Navratri Parana, Durga Visarjan, Vijay Dashmi
Navaratri is divided into sets of three days to adore different aspects of the Supreme Goddess.

On the first three days, the Mother is invoked as powerful force called Durga in order to destroy all our impurities, vices and defects.

The next three days, the Mother is adored as a giver of spiritual wealth,Lakshmi, who is considered to have the power of bestowing on her devotees the inexhaustible wealth.

The final set of three days is spent in worshiping the mother as the Goddess of Wisdom, Saraswati. In order to have all-round success in life, we need the blessings of all three aspects of the divine mother; hence, the worship for nine nights.
