politics, indira gandhi, atal bihari vajpayee

By Suchitra Das

Indira Gandhi was the most charismatic political leader in the post-Independence history of India. Her speeches/addresses both inside and outside the Parliament were most appealing and had impacting influence in the mind of the people across the country. Her speeches were assertive, authoritative, forceful and commanding because of the influence of Sun and Mars on his second house. Her speeches were weighty in nature and had bearing across the length and breadth of the country because of the influence of Jupiter on her second house. My personal opinion is that the country has not come across such a charismatic and magnificent leader with mass appeal after Indira Gandhi, which in the subsequent period could only be seen in the person of Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, whose speeches is also very impressive but mild and respectful and sometime blended with the essence of humours. Both of them became the Prime Ministers of one of the biggest democratic countries of the world. With this prelude, let me astrologically analyse a few significant events in the political career of this great lady. Here is the Horoscope of late Smt. Indira Gandhi in tabular format.

Union Information & Broadcasting Minister

She became the Union Information & Broadcasting Minister in June 1964 during Jupiter – Venus. The connection of Mahadasha lord Jupiter (9th lord of luck & 6th lord of competition/contest) with 11th house of expansion, 10th house of profession/karma, 5th house of ministership, 3rd house of communication as well as Saturn (significator of mass leadership) who is exalted in Dashamsha and Moon (karaka of public relation) helped her of becoming I&B Minister. Antardasha Lord Venus, though badly placed, but is in relationship with Mahadasha Lord, exalted Saturn in Dashamsha and exalted Mars, the planet of administration & agility. The 6th house of competition/contest in election is strong and has linkage with 10th house of profession both in Birth and Dashamsha horoscopes through Mahadasha Lord Jupiter. The stint was not longer because of the adverse position of AD lord.

Prime Minister of India

She became the first lady Prime Minister of India on January 24th, 1966 during Jupiter – Sun. The position of Mahadasha Lord Jupiter has already been explained above. Sun is the 2nd lord from Lagna involved in exchange of house relationship with Mars (5th & 10th lord) and has strong relationship with Mahadasha Lord. A Mahadasha normally fulfill its horoscopic commitments during the Antardasha of such planets, which are related to it and keeping the similar promises through lordship, aspect or placement. Moreover, Sun is strongly posited in 9th house of luck/preceptor/head/guide in Dashamsha Chart and aspected by an exalted Mars from 2nd house of status. We all know how powerful she was and had single handedly steered her party. All Congressmen associated with her were looking forward to her for guidance and direction. She could be compared with a Sunbeam because she was at the centre-stage of all activities.

During 1971 – 1972 at the time of Saturn– Saturn Dasha her popularity and image among the people was all time high for giving a humiliating defeat to Pakistan in Indo-Pak war of 1971, which had culminated into the birth Bangladesh as an independent country as per the then popular wishes of the people of that country. Saturn is exalted in Dashamsha Horoscope and aspected by Dashamsha Lagna lord retrograde Jupiter ensuring the timing of the fructification of the Dasha result.

The Congress party led by Indira Gandhi had a landslide victory in the Parliamentary elections held in January 1980 during her Saturn - Venus. Saturn is exalted in Dashamsha Chart in a favourable Upachaya house of expansion and gain. Venus is related to 6th house of contest/competition as well as with Mahadasha lord in Dashamsha Chart.

From the above study, it can be seen that the 6th house of the Horoscope, which amongst other significations also denotes success in competition/contest is also an important house in the horoscopes of politicians. Strong 6th house and Mars, the natural significator of 6th house matters are also the two factors need to be deeply studied in the horoscopes of politicians for success in the elections. In Jaimini scheme, the study in the similar line obviously to be done with the help of Gnatikaraka (GK) and Mars and their respective strength and correlations with other Karakas/houses vis-…-vis overall strength and promises of the horoscope concerned. Influence of Rahu in 6th house without any suitable benefic intervention indicates unfair means likely to be adopted by the nativity for success in the contest/competition.
