The astrologers are only determining the auspicious timing for Karnavedha in the Sanatan Dharma. Different procedures like Annaprashan, ear piercing, etc. are performed after 6 months of the birth of your child. In the Hindu religion, there is a list of 16 rituals and Karnavedha is one among them. The Karnavedha Ceremony is ranked ninth in the list of 16 samskaras or rituals. Karnavedha indicates piercing of the ear and in the ritual, the child is made to wear a gold or silver wire in the ear. The procedure of Karnavedha is meant to increase the child’s hearing ability and thus eliminate all kinds of negativity from the life of natives. As per the scriptures, a person not involved in the Karnavedha Sanskar will not be included in the last rites of their relatives or family members. But, there are no such rules followed by the people of the Hindu religion today.

2024 Karnavedha Muhurat says that the type of Karnavedha ceremony should be performed on the 10th, 12th, or 16th day from the birth of the child. Karnavedha is also referred to as the ear piercing ceremony and if the Sanskar is not performed on these days, then it should be completed when the baby is 6, 7, or 8 months old. After the completion of one year of the child’s age, the Karnavedha Sanskar should be carried out at the odd age of the child, i.e. after 3 or 5 years. In modern times, the Karnavedha ceremony is performed alongside Mundan Sanskar or Upanayana Sanskar.
In many places today, Karnavedha Muhurat is carried out for girls after birth. The parents believe that the girl’s skin is very soft at an early age and thus they experience minimal pain at the time of Karnavedha or the eye piercing ceremony. Also, the doctors as per 2024 Karnavedha Muhurat advise doing the Karnavedha ceremony after the DPT vaccine or booster doses, i.e. between 3 to 6 months. This type of vaccine also provides the protection needed for the child against infections caused during the ear piercing ceremony.
Solar Month: Other than Kharmas, as the Sun transits in Sagittarius and Pisces, all the solar months are considered auspicious for the Karnavedha ceremony.
Lunar Month: Other than Chaturmas, all the Lunar months are considered auspicious for the Karnavedha ceremony. The Chaturmas are also referred to as Hari Shayan.
Nakshatra: The Nakshatras that are considered auspicious for the Karnavedha ceremony are Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati, Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta, Punarvasu, Shravan, and Dhanishtha. Also, the Abhijeet Nakshatra is considered auspicious for the ceremony.
Tithi: Apart from the blank Tithis in Shukla Paksha & Krishna Paksha, the Chaturthi, Navami, and Chaturdashi Tithis are considered auspicious for Karnavedha.
Days: The best days for Karnavedha Sanskar are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Lagna: For the Karnavedha ceremony, the Jupiter or Venus planet should be the lord of the Lagna horoscope. In simple words, the Karnavedha Sanskar is auspicious for zodiacs like Taurus, Libra, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
Chandra and Tara Shuddhi: For the child, appropriate Chandra and Tara Shuddhi should be done correctly.
Prohibited: The Karnavedha ceremony should not be performed in the month of birth and Nakshatra. This process should be completed successfully at noon time.
The ear piercing or Karnavedha ceremony for the boy should be done initially in the right ear and then followed with the left ear. For the girls, the Karnavedha ceremony should start with the left ear first and then move to the right ear.
