About Vastu Shastra
Vastu Shastra is the Indian architectural science which is known for its most reliable art of architecture which combines the astrology, astronomy and art. The roots of Vastu Shastra can be found in our Indian history as it originated about 5000 years ago, since then our ancient Indian wise sages and intellect scholars were practicing this art of direction and formulated various principals of the Vastu shastra, which stabilizes the natures five elements namely earth, fire, water, sky and wind in such a way so that one can attain a harmonious and successful life.
The word 'Vastu' is originated from the phrase 'VASTOSHPATI' which is mentioned in the Rig Veda and is believed to render happiness, affluence, and shield in life. But it also said that Vastu Shastra can be truly attained in the presence of Vastu Purush, who is regarded as the main deity of a building according to ancient Vedas.
Relevance of Vastu of House
House Vastu is known as ancient spiritual science for designing and building. This art has mystic powers to renovate a bare building in a pleasant dwelling place, which works in a scientific way in order to take the advantage of the benefits bestowed by the nature. Vastu of house is a mystic science or art which has its own power and effects. It uses basic traditional norms of direction which can be lay down for construction, selection, designing and for everything in this world.
There are actually eight directions namely, northeast, north, southeast, east, south west, south, northwest, along with west and this Vastu Shastra is basically a science of directions, a study that acquires an entire command over the awareness of directions.
It is imperative to construct a house as per the Vastu norms for the reason that it brings harmonizing balance amidst mixed atmospheric natural energies including cosmic, solar and lunar energy. It has been seen crooked and vaguely designed houses brings negative powers and hamper the success of the dweller residing in the house. Vastu for house involves several important traits, which illustrate specific style in building every room of your home. Constructing a house by strictly following the Vastu principles will bring peace, success, and affluence to the dwellers. Moreover, a good Vastu shastra casts away the negative powers and brings sanctity to the home.

Land Vastu Tips
- Ensure while considering land that the length of the land should not be more than twice its breadth.
- The land should not be porous.
- The angle of the land should be such that water flows towards North-East.
- The slope of the roof should be such that water should flow towards North or East.
- The house should not be constructed on the land which ever had a history of having a cemetery or a graveyard upon it.
Water Storage Vastu Tips
- North or East directions are ideal for Water storage.
- Underground water tanks, filter etc. should be kept in this direction.
Doors Vastu Tips
- The Main-Gate should have two panels.
- The main door should not open inside the house.
- The doors in the house should not be noisy.
- The total number of doors, windows and ventilators in the house should be even in number for e.g. 2, 4, 6 etc. but should not end with a 0 i.e. 10, 20 etc
Staircase Vastu Tips
- The steps leading to the entrance should not be damaged or broken.
- The staircase should ascend clockwise.
Interiors Vastu Tips
- Bright colours should not be used in the house.
- Cold and light colours should be used for painting the house.
- Paintings or photographs depicting war, sad faces, birds like owl, crow, pigeon, erotic pictures etc. should not be used for decoration in the house.
Kitchen Vastu Tips
- The kitchen should be towards South-East.
- Alternatively it can establish in the North-West.
- All flammable items should be fixed in the South-East corner.
- The Main-switch, generators etc. should be located in the South-East corner of the house.
Pooja Room Vastu Tips
- The Pooja Room should be positioned in the North East direction.
- Alternatively, it can be establish in the North or East direction.
- Idols should not exceed 6 inches in height. One should not sleep in there.
Bedroom Vastu Tips
- The right place to set your bedroom is the South.
- The bed should be placed in such a way that while sleeping; the head should be towards the South.
- One should never sleep with legs towards the South.
- The inmates should not take meals in the bedroom otherwise they will suffer bad health, especially while they sit on the bed while eating.
- Divine idols should not be kept in the bedroom.
Dining Hall Vastu Tips
- Dining Room should be towards the West.
Bathroom Vastu Tips
- The bathroom should ideally be located in the East.
- Alternatively, it can be located in the North-West.
- Bathroom should never be located in the North East.
- Wash basin etc. should be mounted on the Eastern wall of the bathroom. Geyser should be installed in the South-East corner.
Children's Room and Study Room Vastu Tips
- Children's room can be located in this corner i.e. the North West.
- The study room can also be located in this direction.
Some effective Vastu tips for home
- The doors of the house of each room should be facing East.
- If trees are to be planted in the premises, they can be planted in West direction.
- Ensure that the Bedrooms should be kept in South and West.
- In bed rooms, always use bed of four legs only. Never use box bed because it stops the air circulation under the bed which is bad for health.
- Placement of mirrors on South and West wall are inauspicious, avoid placing mirrors in the kitchen.
- While sleeping, head should be pointed towards South or West but never in North.
- The right place to set pooja room is in North East corner. All idols and photographs should be facing East or West.
- Toilet seat should be in North-South only. Strictly avoid East-West direction.
- Out houses should not touch the compound wall of North and East side.
- Stairs should always be in clock-wise direction.
- Porch should not touch the North or East compound wall.
- Big trees should not be grown in North or East. They should be in South or West side of the house. Avoid keeping prickly cactus plants in the house.
- The width of the door should be half the height of the door. The door should not be too high, too low, too wide or too narrow. The doors should be rectangular and square doors should always be avoided.
- Ventilation should be looked after and good cross ventilation should be there.
- Doors should open inside the room and not outside.
- No room should be built under the stairs.
- The cupboard in the wall should be in the Southern or Western part direction of the house.
- In the kitchen, grinder, fridge, shelf and other heavy items should be towards South and West wall.<
- There should be no water body in front of any entrance door of the house
