We all know that there are nine planets in astrology. Everyone of these nine planets has a legend to its credit. Each planet has a distinct effect on an individual. The way each of these planets influence our lives is also very unique. While the good influences can bring you riches and good health, the opposite could get you to ruins. Sun

Sun is the son of Rishi Kashyap and Aditi. Sun is known as Aditya which is derived from the word Aditi. Sun is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is supremely known as Surya Narayana. He is venerated as one of the deities in the Panch Dev. He was born to Aditi as a result of Boon from Sun God himself. Sun is a warrior and assumes absolute power in whatever it does. He is believed to be the right eye of Lord Shiva.

Moon

Moon is the son of Rishi Atri and Anasuya. He won the blessings from Lord Shiva with intense meditation and thus conferred the place among the nine planets. It is believed that he was very handsome and fickle minded especially while dealing with the female gender. The twenty Nakshatra (constellation) in Astrology were Daksha’s daughters who were married to Moon. He is known to favor all sorts of materialistic pleasures. He is believed to be the left eye of Lord Shiva.

Mars

He is known as the Bhoomi Putra born from the drop of sweat of Lord Shiva. Earth got impregnated by Lord Shiva’s sweat and a mighty warrior God called Kuja or Bhaum was born. He is red in complexion and has a well proportioned body. He is a master warrior and known to strike his enemies very hard. He was blessed by Lord Shiva to be one of the outer planets in the solar system.

Mercury

Mercury is Moon’s illegitimate son. Moon had tricked Tara (Brihaspati wife) and impregnated her by assuming her husband’s looks. Mercury is known to be very handsome and witty in nature. He has a large belly and loves green color. He has complete mastery over religious literature and Mantra recitation. Mercury is a strong worshipper of Lord Vishnu.

Jupiter

Jupiter is the son of Rishi Angiras (Lord Brahma’ son). His ancestry originates from Lord Brahma himself. Jupiter was blessed by Lord Shiva to be the mentor of the Gods and occupy position as an outer plane in the solar system. He is known to have a well built body with some extra element of chubbiness. He has a distinguishing voice and maintains absolute mastery over the Vedas and all other religious literature. He is a great devotee of Lord Shiva.

Venus

Venus is the son of Rishi Bhrigu and Kavyamala. His real name is Ushna. Planet Venus is known to have mastered all the religious literature very early in his life. He is believed to have understood all the advanced level knowledge of scriptures. Planet Venus is cleverly materialistic in life yet very religious. He was blessed by Lord Shiva to occupy position as a planet in the solar system. He is single eyed and happens to be the chief mentor of the Demons.

Saturn

Saturn is the son of Surya and Chaya. He is dark complexioned with a long body. He is a great devotee of Lord Shiva and was blessed by him to occupy position as an outer planet in the solar system. He was conferred the position of the Chief Justice by Lord Shiva to evaluate and subsequently award/punish the acts by human beings. He is known to perform everything in a very lazy manner (manda).

Rahu/Ketu

Rahu was originally a demon called Swarbhanu, son of Simhika (hiranyakashipu's sister). His head was chopped off by Lord Vishnu in his Mohini avatar. The head portion became Rahu (representing the head of a snake) and the latter part of the body became Ketu (tail of the snake). They are not known to favour anyone but themselves. They cause the solar and the lunar eclipse.
