Know more about different muhurats in 2019: Muhurat 2019

This naming of the child is performed with jubilation and delight by everyone around the world. In Hinduism, it is called Namkaran Sanskar, during which the child is named at the punctilious time fixed by an astrologer or priest.

What Is Naming Ceremony Muhurat?

The time of Naming Ceremony ceremony is called Naming Ceremony or namkaran muhurat. This muhurat is premeditated by taking several considerations like, time of birth, Nakshatra or the star during which the child is born, zodiac sign and many others. This is done with the help of a profound astrologer or holy priest.

The customary ritual process of namkaran is naming the child, which is the 5th sanskar or 5th entity of the 16 Hindu samskaras. This is customarily called as Namkaran Sanskar.

How Is Naming Ceremony Sanskar Performed?

Before the namkaran sanskar is performed, two names of the baby are determined. This is done by an exhaustive study of horoscope or birth chart including the following features.

  • Location of planets in the horoscope at the time of birth
  • Nakshatra or the star during which the child is born, also known as Nakshatram
  • Month in which the child is born, known as Masanam
  • The name of the family God is known as Devtanama
  • Zodiac sign of the child known as Rashinama
  • The worldly name or the Samsarikanama

All above should be given inordinate consideration before fixing the two names. Also, the names should be to the liking of the child's parents and family and should live up their expectations.

Reasons Behind Two Names

Out of the two names, one is for everyone to know. The other name is kept a secret between the parents and the sagacious astrologer. This is done to protect the child from negativity, evil forces, black magic and various other beliefs of the parents and their elders in the family. Once this is done, the auspicious namkaran sanskar is performed by a pious priest with pomp and jubilance.

Where And When Is Naming Ceremony Done?

As far as where is concerned, it could be any place which suits fit for the parents and family as per their aspirations and comfort.

Nowadays, the 100th day is the most common day for child naming sanskar. This suits well for many to remember the day of their child being named for a long time to come. But any day from the 11th day of birth of a child to the first birthday namkaran sanskar could be done. This is because the first 10 days of the child's birth are considered as a period of sutak or shuddhikaran period which is not suitable for any auspicious event.

Rituals Performed During Naming Ceremony

Holy prayers and mantras are the order of the day of Child Naming sanskar. The child's ancestors who are indirectly responsible for the child's life are worshipped with gratitude and affection. Also, the God of fire, Lord Agni, the Pancha Bhootas or the five fundamental elements of the world namely air, water, land, fire, and sky are worshipped with devotion.

The first name is made public by the father of the child and in some families, the maternal uncle, or grandfather or any respected person of the family will whisper the name into the ear of the baby three times. With this, the wonderful namkaran sanskar ceremony comes to an end.

Astrological Aspects To Be Considered Before Fixing Naming Ceremony Muhurat:

  • Any lunar day or tithi except the Amavasya, which is the day of the full darkness or the day of the absence of the moon, or Chaturthi, Navami and Chaturdashi is idle for performing the Naming Ceremony muhurat.
  • All days of the week are good days for namkaran muhurat.
  • The following of the 27 Nakshatra or stars are considered to be propitious for the namkaran muhurat:
